Basic account
What is Basic account
A basic account is an EUR payment account which includes essential services. It is defined by the Act on the Comparability of Fees Related to Payment Accounts, Payment Account Switching and Access to Basic Accounts, based on which the bank provides:
- debit Visa Inspire card linked to the payment account
- lodging funds into the payment account
- effecting payments by standing order
- payment transactions via the direct debit procedure and by the Visa Inspire card, including online payments
- credit transfers (including standing orders) at terminals, counters and via PBZ digital banking
Basic account users
Domestic and foreign clients have the right to open and use a basic account who:
- apply for the basic account and at the same time confirm that they either don’t have another basic payment account in the Republic of Croatia or have requested from the account-managing bank to close it,
- have legal temporary residence in the European Union and consumers who did not get a work permit, but whose expulsion is not possible due to legal or substantial reasons.
Account users belonging to a vulnerable group
A basic account for users belonging to a vulnerable group is a basic account which may be used by clients who are entitled to a basic account and belong to a vulnerable group.
A vulnerable group is defined by the Act on the Comparability of Fees Related to Payment Accounts, Payment Account Switching and Access to Basic Accounts, and consumers belonging to the group are beneficiaries of the following rights under the law governing social welfare.
The client provides means of proof that he or she belongs to a vulnerable group with a certificate issued by an authority competent for welfare matters.
Overdraft and installments
Overdraft or installments using a payment card for purchasing products or payment for services in installments are not permitted with a basic account and a basic account for vulnerable groups.
Basic account
Clients who have legal residence in one of the EU countries may apply for a basic account with the essential services included in one of PBZ’s branch offices.
Clients belonging to a vulnerable group can apply for a basic account for vulnerable groups.

Limits and fees
The monthly fee for a basic account is EUR 2,52 and it includes:
- management of the basic account and
- online banking membership [PBZ digital banking]
The monthly fee for a basic account for a consumer belonging to a vulnerable group is EUR 0,13 and it includes:
- managing a basic account for vulnerable groups
- online banking membership [PBZ digital banking]
- 10 free national and cross-border payment transactions in EUR per month, carried out via the Bank’s channels
The first regular monthly management fee for a basic account, or a basic account for a consumer belonging to a vulnerable group, will be charged 90 days after the account is opened in accordance with the Bank Tariff.
The consumer belonging to a vulnerable group must confirm the right to a basic account for vulnerable groups every 12 months by providing a certificate issued by the competent authority on their status as a social welfare beneficiary.
Upon the expiry of the 12-month period, the Bank will request in writing that the Consumer submits a certificate on social welfare beneficiary status within two months. If the Consumer does not submit the certificate within two months or does not terminate the framework basic account contract, the Bank will convert the basic account for vulnerable groups to a basic account.
